The invitation

I was invited by the Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council to speak at AFAC26 in Melbourne about my work at ResQVision on the SAIL project.

With Surf Life Saving NSW, I presented Surveillance Artificial Intelligence for Lifesaving (SAIL): how AI can support the people responsible for keeping our coastlines safe.

The talk

Surveillance Artificial Intelligence for Lifesaving

SAIL combines coastal cameras and computer vision to identify risk and bring alerts to operational teams. The goal is to give lifesavers more time and better information to respond.

The presentation explored how this technology fits into existing communications, incident management, and rescue workflows, with people at the centre of the decision.

More about SAIL

Connecting engineering with real-world outcomes

While my talk centred on the technology behind the SAIL program, the conference was also a great opportunity to connect with industry leaders from around the world. People from diverse backgrounds came together with a shared purpose: improving fire and emergency services.
